Welcome to Exeter University Boat Club's home page, please use the navigation panel on the right to explore our site.

Rowing is one of the countries oldest and most prestigious sports so it is only natural that Exeter University, probably the best university in the world, should be part of this tradition.

2008-09
Last year was an exceptional one for the club; starting with some competitive racing at Bristol Head and Marlow Fours and Pairs Head. The season continued with the run up to Head Of The River, the woman recorded an excellent placing, the best in the last 5 years. The men also set a record time for Exeter and finished a respectable 83rd in a 12yr old boat!

After the Easter training camp at Soustons in France the squads moved on to the summer Regattas; BUCS, Met and Marlow were all well attended by members and supporters alike. Notable results came from the Intermediate 3 VIII and the Novice IV at Reading who both won their categories. Unfortunately the run up to Henley was disrupted by exams but despite this the women's 1st IV+ qualified at Henley Women's Regatta and the men's 1st VIII qualified for the Temple Challenge Cup at Henley Royal. The men's 2nd VIII narrowly missed out, a great disappointment but many of the crew will return to Exeter for next year!
The women's IV+ were knocked out by a very fast Manchester crew after a very strong row. Meanwhile at Henley Royal fate chose once again to pitch the men's VIII against Imperial College for a second year running. The crew was determined to show their worth, a very close race ensued with Exeter being pipped in the last quarter to loose by a third of a length!
We would like to say a big thank you to all the supporters who lined the bank during the race. Additional thanks go to everyone who made the Alumni picnic a success once again, same time and place next year!

2009/10
Running with the success of the previous academic year, the fading months of 2009 saw the club get off to an excellent start. For the last few years the club has had more and more students join at the squash in October so it was no surprise when we once again recruited a record number of Novice rowers. However, what we were not expecting was how many would still be with us by the end of the first semester. The organisation and dedication of the Novice Squad captains has ensured that the size of these squads is, still, double what it has been in the past. Their job has been made immeasurably easier by the sheer enthusiasm shown by this year's Novice men and women; which is, in a word, inspiring.
The senior squads too have benefited from an influx of fresh talent and the return of some familiar faces. On the back of all this the club has brought back a slew of medals from Marlow and Bristol (with a strong performance against Bristol University at the latter) not to mention pots from Exeter City's winter head race. Now with the Christmas break behind them the club can look forward to the spring and the big Head races in March. Expect some exciting developments in the next few months!

Development
The plans for a new clubhouse have overcome the initial design issues and continue to roll forward, the schedule for completion remains for the 10/11 season. Work has just been finished on a redeveloped ergo room which provides a safe and clean training environment for all members on Streatham Campus.

A comprehensive asset replacement program is in its final drafts which should see recycling of the boat fleet in coming years. This is a joint venture between EUBC and Alumni, further support is needed so please if you are willing to help contact the President via the contacts pages.

This leads me on to a new scheme put in place by the University to encourage Alumni support. We are currently asking for small monthly donations of £2-£10 for 5 years. The first few clubs to reach a target of £400 a year will get this doubled by the University; plus gift aid this becomes an extra £1000 a year. Our performance is currently suffering due to poor equipment, due to lack of funding, this is something we, as a club, are keen to change. So if you feel your time at EUBC was as enjoyable as ours is today please put you hand in your pocket and ensure that the club continues to offer the same experience now and for years to come.

Finally I would like to thank all those who have helped EUBC this year, and invite any prospective members or Alumni to drop an email to the President for further information.

Luke Dillon
EUBC President
